meet amber murphy
Amber attends JCM Early College High. As a Junior Fellow with the Jackson Grown Leader Fellowship, she is also a dedicated volunteer in the community working several hours per week with RIFA to give her time and energy to underserved populations in the community. She is also volunteering with the Youth Court to help contruct sentencing solutions for other teens. These sentences are based on the principles of Restorative Justice which value the contributions and perspectives of both the victims and offenders. For fun Amber very much enjoys piano lessons and book club.
Her favorite areas of study are foreign languages, social studies, history and visual arts. She enjoys big picture thinking but also isn’t afraid to get her hands into projects and carry projects forward. She sees herself as an idea creator, strategy setter, negotiator and team member who is confident taking a specific task.
In the future Amber wants to work as a lawyer or an architect. If she had her choice though, she would enjoy being an artist.

“I believe my strength is my creativity and my high level of organization. I am also very good about working with other people and being cooperative.”
What are the best opportunities for residents in Jackson to grow, learn and succeed?
“I feel like some of the best opportunities for the Jackson community would include the Juneteenth parades, the Christmas parade, the carnival and other events that bring people together. Specifically, with Juneteenth, I believe that it allows people from all over Jackson to come together and learn about the cultures and heritages of different people.”
What do you believe are the biggest strengths within your neighborhood or the bigger Jackson community.
“One of the things I appreciate in the Jackson community is how many educational opportunities we have been given.
