“Through the journey of life you will find your tribe. Your family and teachers will be the beginning of this journey. Pick the others wisely and surround yourself with people that are good for your soul. Challenge yourself every day to learn all you can. HI, I’M summer…
What’s your favorite book?
“I’ve got to agree with my fellow Crew Member Greg Perry. Mine is “The Four Agreements” as well. He’s got great taste.”
What’s your favorite song or type of music?
“I’ve got to be honest, I’m a huge Radiohead fan.”
There’s a lot of movies out there, but if you had to pick one…what would it be?
“Really anything by Stanley Kubrick. He is hard to beat.”
Though you didn’t grow up here, what is one of your favorite memories of Jackson?
“It’s true, I didn’t grow up in Jackson but I did spend my summers here. I think it would be watching movies at the outdoor drive-in theater right outside of Bemis. It was always a treat. I wish it was still open. But yeah, wonderful memories there with family and friends.”
Who would you say is the most inspirational person you’ve ever met?
“My father. He was a small town boy from Ripley, TN. He achieved amazing things in his lifetime. He was a pro baseball player, built water treatment facilities all over the world and conquered so many things strictly with mind and will power. He was an amazing person.”
Life is an adventure. What has been the greatest adventure you have had?
“I think motherhood is the greatest of all adventures but that’s difficuult to explain in words. It is though a wonderful, fulfilling journey that I deeply treasure. In terms of adventure, I just returned from a tour of England with my partner who tours in a band in Europe multiple times a year. It was an absolutely wonderful thing to be able travel the country in a van and meet a myriad of people from different parts of the country. We were also able to spend time in York, England which, for me, is incredibly fascinating. I have always been so interested in Queen Elizabeth (the one from the 1500’s, and the War of the Roses. It was so interesting to see the places where that history happened.”
There are challenges that everyone faces. Some are hidden and some are more visible. What are some of the issuess and challenges you are particularly passionate about addressing?
“The equality of women. I would like to see equal pay, social equality and the eradication of sexual objectification in my lifetime or at least my daughter's. I matters so much across society.”
