Howl-O-Ween

Date: Saturday, October 27
Time: 10:00 A.M. - 2:00 P.M.
Location: Jackson's AMP at the Market (91 New Market Street)
Cost: Free!

Trick-or-treating ain't just for the kids—make sure to show your dog or cat some love, too! Join the Jackson Animal Care Center at the AMP for dozens of fun activities for the whole family, not to mention a costume contest.

Runway for a Cure

Date: Sunday, October 2

Location: Carl Perkins Civic Center (400 South Highland Avenue)

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and each year we get pumped for Runway for a Cure at the Civic Center. (This is its twenty-fourth year!) Whether you're there for the auction or the unforgettable "Real Men Wear Pink" fashion show, you're bound to have a night full of fun supporting the 12% of America's women who suffer from breast cancer.

Explore: Dozens of Tasty Beers
Jackson Brew Fest

Date: Saturday, October 27
Time: 1:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M.
Location: Jackson Fairgrounds (800 South Highland Avenue)
Cost: $10 for Designated Driver; $25 for General Admission; $50 for VIP

Need an afternoon away from the kids? Head down to the Fairgrounds for the twenty-one-and-up Brew Fest, featuring a wide variety of international and local beers to sample at your leisure. Make sure to bring your designated driver as there will be plenty of other fun including food, entertainment, and the famous cornhole tournament!

Exercise: In this Awesome Fall Weather
Bone Bash 5K & Walk

Date: Saturday, October 13
Time: 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. 
Location: Union University (1050 Union University Drive)
Cost: $30 for timed 5k; $25 for untimed 5k; $25 for one-mile walk (all prices increase $10 day of event)

Did you know that arthritis is America's #1 cause of disability, affecting more than 50 million people? Help fight it by participating in the Arthritis Foundation's Bone Bash 5k! What makes this race extra fun is that you get to run in your Halloween costume, plus all participants get a free shirt. Can't make it but want to donate to the cause? Get a "Passive Pumpkin" ticket for $25, and you'll get a t-shirt, too!

It's one of our favorite fall events: theCOtoberfest! Although Our Jackson Home won't be hosting A Night of Storytelling this time around, theCO is still offering tons of family fun to show off all their awesome tools, entrepreneurs, and more. Plus, this year they'll be adding a film festival (enter here!) and a #JacksonFamous Pitch Palooza featuring some of your favorite Jackson celebs. Don't miss it! 


Originally from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Katie Howerton moved to Jackson in 2011 to study Graphic Design and Drawing at Union University. She discovered Our Jackson Home in January 2015 and used it as a guinea pig for her senior design project, creating the first issue of Our Jackson Home: The Magazine. After graduating she was given leadership over Our Jackson Home at theCO, where she now runs the blog, designs the magazine, and coordinates events. She and her husband Jordan live in Midtown and are active members of City Fellowship Baptist Church.
