Outsiders Exposition: How You Can Support Local Music
Growing your local music scene is a lot like trying to grow a fledgling business. You need people eager to support your products, the wherewithal to put in the hours to create good products, and (of course) some good products. Jackson’s music scene has an massive amount of potential, but it lacks some of the key ingredients to basic growth.
The Surreals
First, the arts in general need more support in Jackson. Jackson’s music scene needs all the support every arts-lover can stand to give. Why? Because like every other music Mecca, Jackson has the roots, tradition, and soul . . . but it doesn’t have the venues, enthusiasm, or monetary support. How can we start moving in the right direction? The first thing we have to do is start going to more shows.
A perfect example of a show coming up that anyone can willingly support is Outsiders Exposition. The Skeleton Krew’s Hunter Cross and Cameron Briley have put together a solid bill of up-and-coming bands that really want to play and grow.
“The show is all-ages, but the original idea for Outsiders Exposition was to put a show together for the people who couldn’t get into bars yet,” Hunter explained. “We want to try to create environments that the younger bands can play in since Jackson doesn’t have many all ages venues.”
Beyond Blame
The Skeleton Crew, along with Beyond Blame, The Surreals, The Go-Tos, Water the Buffalo, and Jupiter Stone, will be playing at the New Southern on Friday, February 26, 2016. The show will start around 6:00 p.m. and will go until about 10:00 p.m.. Take this opportunity to show some earnest musicians some love, and help grow the music scene in Jackson, Tennessee.
