HaliHannigan’s Cupcakery opened in November 2010 and has quickly become a Jackson staple. I still remember when it opened on Vann Drive, and I even remember the first cupcake I tried there. It was a Strawberry Pucker, and it was absolutely fantastic! Now they have even more flavors and a variety of bakery items sure to satisfy any sweet tooth.

Downtown Jackson has grown so much in the last couple of years, and one of its newest residents is probably the one I’ve been the most excited about. Grubb’s Grocery, a natural and organic market, opened this spring in the Jackson Walk neighborhood, and shopping there has completely exceeded my expectations!

Is there anything better than an ice-cold dessert on a blazing hot summer day? No. No there isn’t. Luckily, Jackson has the perfect locally-owned business to get that hits-the-spot cold treat you need: Surf’s Up Shaved Ice! I grew up eating snow cones that are coarse with larger chunks of ice. I remember the very first time I had the softer shaved ice variety, which has more of a snow texture. I was in Hawaii on the North Shore and went to a local place called Matsumoto.

Hello Jackson: Performance Running of West Tennessee

Running has long been a popular form of exercise, but the sport has picked up a huge following in the past few years. I’ve been running off and on for about three years now, and I’ve lamented the fact that Jackson didn’t have a running store. There is a big box store with a limited selection of good running shoes, but that just didn’t do it for me. I have always driven to Memphis or Nashville for specialty stores, but as of this summer, I can do my shopping right here in Jackson!
